Is the gold on this Superocean real?
Yes. The bezel is solid 18k red gold, not plated or PVD. The case underneath is DLC-coated stainless steel, which is why the black finish holds up and the gold doesn't look like a coating. It's a two-material case, not a two-tone steel watch dressed up.
What movement is in the Superocean Automatic 46?
Calibre 17, Breitling's chronometer-certified version of the ETA 2824-2 / Sellita SW200 base. It runs a 38-hour reserve, so it needs regular wear or a wind if it sits over a weekend. Any watchmaker can service it, and parts are inexpensive. It's the reason this reference is the accessible entry to Breitling's dive line.
Will the DLC coating wear off?
Not under normal wear. DLC is harder than the steel beneath it and won't fade or rub through at contact points. A deep strike on a case edge can expose bare steel, and that can't be touched up, only recoated at service. Light marks on the coating are what "Very Good" condition looks like on a black case.
